Who Is The Pin Princess?

My name is Susan and I find myself at a crossroad after more than three decades as a first responder.

Following medical retirement I was looking for a creative outlet.

Sewing has been a passion since early childhood and that passion was nurtured/channelled by my mum after she found me "upcycling" her Sheridan sheets into clothes for my teddy bear.

My sewing journey over the last 50 plus years has seen me study textiles and design as a full time student for two years, work as an alterations specialist, design and make bespoke garments including wedding gowns and also run my own business called "Walkabout Bears" specialising in award winning designer mohair teddy bears.

More recent passions include practical quilts that I make using my lovely Bernina sewing machine which provides a strong, high quality finish that can withstand machine washing. 

I've also been revisiting that childhood urge to upcycle and this led to the pin cushions. So many of yesteryears trinkets are thrown away when they can be given new life as pin cushions!

Along the same lines, I decided clothing was fair game. I now upcycle unused garments etc into quilts, critters and pin cushion tops.

I have also created a range of upcycled clothing that has been painstakingly embellished with gorgeous embroidery and appliuques.
